Welcome!
As pastor, I want to welcome you and I invite you to explore our website to learn of the many ways we are seeking to spread the Good News through our common life of faith. Since Pentecost, the Church has been seeking to spread the Gospel, so that the love of God could be known and experienced around the world, including in Swartz Creek.
Our goal at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church is to be a parish in which men and women and boys and girls will come to know and love Jesus Christ, and can grow in their life as disciples of Christ. As you explore the website, you will find many opportunities to encounter Jesus, to grow in your faith, and to serve others in His name.
In the first paragraphs of his Encyclical Letter, Deus Caritas Est, Pope Benedict XVI wrote these marvelous words: "Being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction . . . . Since God has first loved us (cf. I Jn 4:10), love is now no longer a mere 'command'; it is the response to the gift of love with which God draws near to us."
Our response to this gift of God's love is to strive, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to help others encounter the One who is Love, the One who "draws near to us."
As a parish, we are striving to grow in our love of God and neighbor and to share that love with others. If you have the opportunity, we would love to have you come to visit and perhaps join us in our life together.
If you're curious about the Catholic faith, we hope you'll let us know. We'd love to talk with you about our faith. For now, feel free to explore.
In these pages, you will learn about the programs we have planned for parishioners of all ages. This year, we have made a concerted effort to support the growth of faith in families, which has entailed changes in our faith formation programs.
Again, welcome. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have about what you find in these pages. And if you visit, please introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you.
May God richly bless you and all those you love.
Your servant in Christ,
Father Steve Mattson, Pastor
