  • Children must participate in religious education and consent to all diocesan policy regarding behavior.

3) Monthly participation of parents in Family Formation Saturday's (Family Formation Schedule)

  • In the mission to teach children, we are presenting all parents the opportunity to grow in their faith journey through our monthly Family Formation Saturday program. Since it is a vital component of our mission, parents are required to attend our short evening program that will involve a dinner, discussion, prayer, and fellowship. In the event of an absence, please notify Joe Philip and we will have support material provided for you to review and return with your child.
  • To encourage family time, there will be no CCD for children on weekends that parents participate in Family Formation Saturday's.

From the Desk of Fr. Steve:

Joe Philip, Val Standley, and I have been praying and thinking about how to foster a deeper encounter with Jesus and a meaningful engagement with our Catholic faith on the part of the children who are part of our Catholic Formation (CCD) program. Thankfully, God our Father and Mother Church have not left us without wise guidance. I have asked Joe Philip to take on additional responsibilities for our Catholic Formation program, and his efforts have borne fruit. Based on prayerful study, we have developed a plan for the coming year found below.

The information you will find describes our revised program of Catholic Formation for Families. We trust that this new approach will help us equip parents to follow God’s commandment to “train up their children in the way they should go . . .” To accomplish this goal, we will focus on the faith life of families, not just educate children. We want to help parents open up the beauty and grace of our Catholic faith to their children. Though some parents feel confident as they teach their children the faith, others feel unprepared to do so. Recognizing this diversity, we are structuring the program in ways that allow parents (wherever they are in their life of faith) to grow in their own knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith. It is my heart-felt desire and prayer that we will provide meaningful help to parents as they seek to fulfill their God-given responsibilities to their children.

Sunday Morning Changes

I want to thank you all for your responses to the survey earlier this summer about Mass time changes. The time of our Sunday Faith Formation program for children will be 9:15 to 10:45. Therefore, in order to accommodate this new program, we will be changing our Sunday Mass times to 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. effective September 13. Please pray for us as we make these changes that I am convinced will help all of us grow together as a community of faith, hope, and love.

Finally, I invite you to prayerfully read what our Church has taught on the relationship between CCD and Faith Formation for adults and families here.

Thankful for God’s “lavish” grace,

Father Steve

Faith Formation for Children: Catechesis

"Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ."
(Jn 17:3)
St. Mary's, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, strives to bring parents and children of the parish into a deep, personal communion with Christ and His Church, and to foster in them a missionary zeal for souls by:
  • Proclaiming the Word of God and His loving plan of salvation as expressed in Holy Scripture and the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church
  • Acknowledging every person as a child of God, uniquely created by the Father in His image and likeness
  • Teaching the Person of Jesus Christ, the source and summit of all life, through whom we are granted our salvation
  • Equipping children so that they may engage the world with the full ‘rigor and vigor’ of the Catholic faith
  • Prepare the children for the Sacraments of Penance, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and for a lifetime devotion to God
  • For more information- click here
"The definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch, but also in communion and intimacy with Jesus Christ."

  • Formation Talks on Catholic relevent faith related topics
  • Faith Formation Opportunities built around
a monthly meal, small group discussion, and prayer
for parents and other interested parishioners
  • Family Resources to apply CCD lessons at
    home
  • Media provided for missed Saturday Sessions
  • Family Formation Saturdays are weekends that
have no Sunday CCD sessions to encourage families
to find creative ways to honor the Sabbath
    with each other.
  • More information- click here
"Catechesis for adults, since it deals with persons who are capable of an adherence that is fully responsible, must be considered the chief form of catechesis. All the other forms, which are indeed always necessary, are in some way oriented to it."
