Ripples in the Water: Reflections and Updates

I love to write (please remember, love for something speaks nothing of a guy's proficiency in that thing) and so I started this page just to share a series of reflections on youth ministry, faith, culture, the occasional iced cappuccino, and well, all things within the sacramental imagination.

"In the experience of great love, all things that happen are events related to it."

In the presence of the greatest of loves, all things are encompassed within, drawn together, and find their place within this divine romance know as Catholicism. What was always there, always present in the events of our lives, reveals itself to be a person, a presence. In the wake of such a love, all things, like constellations under the horizon of the night sky, suddenly dance brightly against the darkness...Christ enters in and life finally begins.

rising to fall, falling to die

For the righteous man falls seven times and rises again..."
-Proverbs 24:16

In my failures, I fall. In my falling I forget. Salvation is remembering. To re-member, to return, to be reunited to his Body...to do this in remembrance of him, to be in Him, in spirit and in flesh. To give him my body and blood as he offers me his, to take and eat even as I am taken and consumed...to share this humanity so to share his Divinity...salvation is remembering that the Word became Flesh, and in him alone can one fall and rise again. Beaten and broke, falling and rising. To rise only to fall. To rise again only to die. This is the Christian story. This is the word that has to take flesh in me. I rise and if Christ rises in me, it is to meet not just his cross, but ours...and there, in the passion of love rent upon wood and stone, tree and altar, in the consummation humanity and Divinity, there is salvation. He can die in me and I in him.
And so... in my falling... in our falling, I am free. I can fall into death and find waiting arms...I can rise again...beautiful and alive, and then fully in Him, I am finally me.
Rising to fall, falling to die. dying to live forever.
The beauty of being alive in Christ: of forgetting and failing, remembering and returning, of falling and rising, of living and dying...of joy and sorrow, of love, of being bound and being free.
